Poland's 13 public holidays are set entirely at the national level โ there is no regional variation, so every region observes the same closures. Large supermarkets and shopping centres are shut on public holidays under the same trading-restriction rules that limit Sunday trading, though small convenience stores, petrol stations and pharmacies typically stay open. Banks and post offices close nationwide. All Saints' Day (1 November) is one of the most visibly observed holidays: millions of Poles travel to visit family graves, light candles and lay chrysanthemums at cemeteries, causing some of the year's heaviest road traffic. Constitution Day (3 May) marks the 1791 constitution, one of the oldest written constitutions in Europe, and falls just two days after Labour Day, so many Poles take 2 May off as a bridging day ('dลugi weekend majowy') to create a five-day break. Corpus Christi and Assumption Day, both religious holidays, reflect Poland's strong Catholic tradition โ the country has more public holidays tied to the church calendar than most of its neighbours.
